Our Summer with The Upward Bound Program at Temple University

On May 23, 2019 I received an email request from Latoya Winkfield of the Stepping Stone’s Upward Bound Program at Temple University. In this email Latoya requested catering service for the 7 week summer program she would be hosting at The University. I was excited and humbled by this request.

I issued Latoya and her staff a proposal on May 30, which was fully accepted on June 5, 2019. D.Stanley Catering was set to cook 2870 meals for 130 teens and staff members over the next 27 days. This was by far the largest contract and toughest battle for my company but I welcomed it with open arms.

I started working on Monday June 11, 2019 at 6:00 am. That became my routine 4 days a week for the next 7 weeks. They were blessed with all types of food from Tacos to Soul food. They enjoyed the luxury of Pasta Bar, Salad Bar, Burger Bar, Wing Day and Seafood Day just to name a few. Everyday there was a vegetarian option for our non meat eaters, there was never a day where they felt slighted!

The program came to a very sad end for me on Thursday July 25, 2019. D.Stanley Catering considered our last day “Philly” Day. The program members were able to enjoy Philly cheesesteaks, Philly pretzels and you can’t have that without a good water ice! The food was a hit from day 1 thru day 27.

I really enjoyed working with the students and staff at The Upward Bound Program this summer. I pray that I will be granted this amazing opportunity again next summer but until then, I’ll be forever grateful for this experience.
